HackTrain

Hack Train 2.0

November 2016 saw Europe's craziest Hackathon back for another outing - but now three times as big and even more impressive!

After the success of the inaugural HackTrain event in March 2015 (for which Ian also supported the design, set-up and delivery) Hack Partners brought the HackTrain back out of it's shed, but this time with 120 Hackers, three train routes rather than one and a grand finale attended by over 200 key players in the rail industry. 30 teams were formed from developers, deisgners and entrpreneurs from across the globe (yes really!) all coming together for an intensive 52 hours of building working prototypes for solutions to some of the biggest challenges facing the rail industry. These were set directly by the rail industry themselves at the epic launch event in London's St. Pancras Renaissance Hotel.

Viatic were involved once again, with Ian invited to join the HackTrain team to finalise the prep and help deliver the event, helping coordinting the teams on the VTEC train route to the North of England, supporting the smooth running of the event, mentoring the teams along the way and hosting the VTEC semi-finals pitches at the NRM, before the grand final which followed at the end of the day. Successful teams went into the HackTrain RailTech Accelerator programme to fast-track their ideas to market, conducting live trials with rail operators earlier in 2016. The results were showcased at the annual HackTrain Conference in June and the teams continue to work with the industry to deploy their solutions in full.
